Italy's Supreme Court has confirmed the 9 year, 4 month sentence for former police agent Luigi Spaccarotella. The latter was convicted for killing Lazio fan and DJ Gabriele Sandri, who died from a gunshot wound on November 11, 2007, in the Badia al Pino motorway station. The court thus rejected the appeal against the voluntary homicide sentence issued by the Florence court, submitted by Spaccarotella's lawyers.

Dutch police say they have arrested 76 Ajax supporters suspected of seeking a confrontation with Manchester United supporters the night before the clubs meet in the Europa League.

Police said that on Thursday the men were detained a day earlier under heightened security rules imposed by the Amsterdam mayor. Spokesman Ad Smit said the men were found to have a pair of brass knuckles, teargas, a club "and a large amount of narcotics". They were held overnight and will face varying fines of up to €600 (£500).

Another 54 supporters of the Belgian club Anderlecht, who were also thought to be seeking confrontation with United supporters, were detained and sent home. On Wednesday, 12 people were arrested for "football-related incidents".

Police arrest 142 fans in Amsterdam ahead of Manchester United's Europa League game against Ajax

Football fans of the Dutch giants were detained alongside supporters of Belgian side Anderlecht after they were trying to organise confrontation with travelling English fans

Fans of the travelling English side were the target of potential trouble in Amsterdam as supporters of Ajax and Belgian side Anderlecht, who were in the Netherlands ahead of their Europa League tie against AZ Alkmaar, tried to organise hostility.

The Dutch and Belgium supporters planned the confrontation together and it is believed that no United fans were arrested following a tense night in the capital.

In total, 76 Ajax and 54 Anderlecht fans were detained in the city centre, with another 12 people arrested elsewhere in Amsterdam, all related to potential trouble ahead of the fixture.

Of those held, all were released ahead of Thursday's fixture.

Wigan slap fans with life bans after Bolton victory is marred by flares

Wigan have banned more than a dozen fans as a result of incidents during last weekend's derby victory at Bolton.
A number of flares were set off in the Latics end at the Reebok Stadium and the club have responded by writing to 17 spectators, predominantly aged between 15 and 22, to inform them they are no longer welcome to attend matches.
'We were extremely disappointed by the behaviour of a small minority of spectators who tarnished what was a fantastic day for the club,' Wigan chief executive Jonathan Jackson said in a statement.

'We have worked closely with Greater Manchester Police who will be issuing official football banning orders on the majority of those arrested during the game.
'We wish to protect the image of Wigan Athletic as a family club and do not welcome those who seek to make trouble and endanger the safety of our supporters.'
The club, keen to maintain their record of good behaviour, say prior to Saturday's game only three Wigan fans had been arrested this season.

Police made its best to avoid any confrontation between supporters from both sides but some troubles erupted, caused by supporters who threw bottles and caused damages.
Some skirmishes also erupted and one Hannover fan was arrested.
Belgians also threw detonators and flares in the city center.
Ten police vans controlled the group of 700 Bruges fans which also included some troublemakers who took place in the Dublin Inn pub and the at the Zanzibar pub.

A number of Napoli players have been named in an investigation into a group of Ultra fans suspected of involvement in violent football related crimes.

Eleven members of the notorious 'Bronx' group of Ultras were arrested in Naples on Tursday morning in a sting operation that followed a two-year investigation.

They are accused of a committing and being associated with a number of football-related crimes in Italy and on foreign shores.

But in announcing the arrests, Naples public prosecutor Giovanni Melillo claimed some Napoli players were friends with the leaders of the Bronx group.

"Some Napoli players maintain contacts with the Ultra groups because they believe they can influence the club's choices when it comes to renewing contracts," said Melillo.

He named Argentine forward Ezequiel Lavezzi as someone who knows Antonio Lo Russo, the son of a suspected clan leader Salvatore.

And former Napoli defender Fabiano Santacroce, now with Parma, is said to have been friends with the head of the Bronx Francesco Fuccia, who was arrested on Thursday, and had even visited him when Fuccia was under house arrest.

Santacroce is supposed to have been introduced to Fuccia by club captain Paolo Cannavaro.

Although Santacroce was interviewed during the investigation as an witness he is not directly involved while Cannavaro has nothing to do with the case.

None of the players are suspected of being involved themselves in criminal activity.

The 11 men arrested are accused of having organised and taken part in violent clashes with rival fans and police at games in 2010 between Napoli and Atalanta, Udinese, Steaua Bucharest and Liverpool.

In the last of those, seven English fans and five police officers were injured in the violence.

A total of 57 members of the Bronx gang, identified by a distinctive tatoo, were under investigation.

A number of materials and objects used in the violence were seized from the homes of those arrested.

We travelled to Cracovae with a group of 20 WCF ( incl 3 MVV). In the city center we had a mob of 70-80 (incl ultras, youth and some scarves looking for trouble). We taught that the Wisla Hooligans would attacked us. But due the high police presence there were no real fights. Only throwing snowballs, seats and fireworks in and on our way to the stadium. In the stadium it was only provoking eachother 5 arrests.

Visiting football fans were arrested for chanting homophobic abuse at the Amex on the same night that Millwall and Albion signed an anti-homophobia charter.

Sussex Police arrested three Millwall fans during Albion’s clash with their South London rivals on Tuesday night for using threatening, abusive or insulting words.

The fans were among seven arrested at the American Express Community Stadium after fans and police clashed at half-time in the South Stand of the ground.

One police officer sprayed fans with pepper spray in an attempt to control the situation while one visiting supporter was arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer.

Police probe after fans injured

POLICE are investigating after two football fans were injured at yesterday’s Hartlepool United match at Victoria Park.

The men needed first aid for minor injuries after the ball was kicked into the home end by the away goalkeeper during the second half of the 3-0 victory over Notts County.

The ball was kicked into the College of FE stand, known as the Town End, after midfielder Tony Sweeney scored Pools’ second goal of the game.

One fan was hit in the arm before it ricocheted into the left-hand-side of the head of another.

Both men received treatment at the ground from St John Ambulance medics, but did not need to be taken to hospital.

The incident sparked outrage from the home fans and objects were thrown towards away goalkeeper Stuart Nelson.

The game was temporarily halted while he received treatment after being hit on the head by one object.

A complaint about the ball being kicked into the crowd was later made to the police from a member of the public.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said: “Police are investigating an incident that occurred during the game between Hartlepool United and Notts County at around 4.10pm on Saturday, February 18.

“A football landed in the crowd and as a result a 31-year-old man from Blaydon and another man received minor injuries.

“Both received first aid treatment at the ground and did not require hospital treatment.”

A spokesman for Hartlepool United said the club did not wish to comment at the moment but confirmed they would be looking into the incident.

Sweeney scored twice and Andy Monkhouse got the third as Pools won the League One clash 3-0.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call PC Holly Angus, of Hartlepool Police, on the non-emergency 101 number.

At 9.30pm 20 to 30 Wattenscheid supporters have attacked the local supporters' home and one man was wounded and some damages were caused (600 euros). Then, troublemakers left the scene by the tramway but were stopped by police.
Six of them, from 20 to 40 years old, were arrested and will appear in front of a Court.
The main face, 21 years old, was well know by Bochum police for hooliganism.

Saturday's scheduled Greek Super League match between AEK and OFI Crete has been called off amid fears of violence by fans of the Athens team angry at the absence of tickets for the game.

Greek General Secretary of Sports Panos Bitsaxis made the decision on police advice on Friday because financially-troubled AEK's failure to pay state taxes meant it was not able to issue tickets for the weekend clash.

Police feared that supporters would force their way into the Olympic stadium to see the match instead.

"In addition, we have information that the supporters would create violence outside the stadium. Thus, we recommend for public safety reasons the match be postponed," the police statement added.

AEK said in a statement that the postponement was "clearly a decision by the police".

"We, on our part, did whatever was possible to play in front of our supporters. It was not possible to print the tickets due to financial reasons."

AEK reportedly could not raise 200,000 euros (about $A245,000) before Friday's deadline to pay their outstanding tax bill.

The Catholic Church condemned supporters for promoting "poisonous bigotry".

Church spokesman Peter Kearney said: "Despite repeated efforts by the club – and to their great embarrassment – anti-Catholic hostility is still alive and well among many Rangers fans."

Dave Scott, of anti-bigotry charity Nil By Mouth, said: "This was a day when some Rangers fans came to show their true feelings for their club. I suspect any true supporter will be sickened that others have chosen this day of all days to dredge up these songs of hate and ignorance."
