Two Torino Fans Arrested Following Europa League Clash

Two Torino fans have been arrested following their Thursday night Europa League clash at the Stadio Olimpico with HJK Helsinki.

The supporters were arrested in connection with launching a Molotov cocktail in the direction of police officers.

The first of the two men, aged 49, must answer to allegations of violence to a police officer, resisting arrest and lashing out at a military officer by throwing a garbage can in his direction.

The second, aged 41, was supposed to be banned from attending the game, having picked up a banning order, or DASPO, as they are called in Italy.

On the pitch, Torino ran out as 2-0 victors and currently sit top of Group B on seven points.

Football hooligans and members of the German far right clashed with riot police in the centre of Cologne on Sunday as a demonstration against Islamic extremism turned violent.

About 2,500 hardline football fans and members of neo-Nazi organisations gathered under the banner “Hooligans against Salafists”. The march had been registered by a regional far-right party, called “Pro NRW”.

A counter demonstrations under the motto “Shoulder to shoulder against racism and religious extremism”, organised by anti-fascist activists, had drew about 500 people.

Cologne newspaper Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger said drunken protesters hurled bottles, rocks, fireworks and bicycles at police, injuring at least 13. One police van was tipped over. Some of the protesters were reportedly shouting “Foreigners out” and “Free, social and national: National Socialism now”.

Police in riot gear used to batons, pepper spray and water canons to contain the situation and made six arrests. A police union spokesperson told Die Welt that they were dealing with a new phenomenon inside the German football hooligan scene which could become highly dangerous.

Earlier this month, the northern German cities of Hamburg and Celle had seen violent clashes between Kurds and Salafists, fuelled by the ongoing conflicts in Syria and northern Iraq.

At about 7pm, a police spokesperson said that they were managing to calm down the situation and that most of the protesters were leaving the city by train.

Banbury fan banned after alleged referee assault during Slough Town match

A football match between Slough Town FC and Banbury United was called off on Saturday after an alleged assault on the referee.
Away fans who had travelled to the Spencer Stadium in the Oxfordshire town were left facing an early trip home following the incident at half time.
It is alleged a Banbury supporter threw a water bottle at the referee who felt unable to continue with the match following the interval.
A statement by police said: "We were called at 4.11pm to the club in Station Approach. The match had been abandoned after a bottle was thrown onto the pitch. No one was injured."
It added a 15-year-old boy from Banbury was interviewed by police. He has now taken a youth restorative disposal and has been banned from attending Banbury United football club.
Following the game joint manager of Slough Town FC, Jon Underwood, said on Twitter: "Just cannot believe what happened today. An embarrassment at this level of football."

CSKA Moscow supporter ban REDUCED by UEFA after Russian champions appeal - 28/10/2014

UEFA have modified CSKA Moscow's punishment for trouble by their fans at their Champions League match away to AS Roma on appeal.
CSKA were originally ordered to play their next three European home games behind closed doors after incidents involving their supporters, including racist behaviour, crowd trouble and setting off flares during the 5-1 defeat in Roma on September 17.
UEFA announced on Tuesday that the ban now applies to two matches.

'The latest (of the three matches) is suspended for a probationary period of five years,' UEFA added, referring to the modification.
The Russian Premier League champions have already played the first of the two matches of the original suspension, a 2-2 draw against Manchester City in Moscow last week. Their next visitors will be Roma.
The Army Men also had their fine reduced from £158,000 (200,000 euros) to £79,000 (100,000 euros). Their prohibition from selling tickets for their next two Champions League away games stands.
CSKA would not comment with their press officer Sergey Aksenov saying: 'We are not ready to make any comments until we receive the official reasoning for their decision. We expect to receive it within a week.'

The team's draw with City gave them their first points after three group matches. They lost 5-1 in Rome and 1-0 at home to unbeaten group leaders Bayern Munich.
City were left furious last week after UEFA revealed they would not take action against CSKA for allowing fans in to their behind closed doors match.
The visitors were flabbergasted to see 300 rowdy Russian fans standing drinking beer — itself a breach of Champions League rules — in the main stand of the Khimki Arena in Moscow to watch their side snatch a 2-2 draw with a disputed late penalty.
Hearing stories of media passes and sponsor tickets being sold to CSKA fans and suspicious that security staff may also have let fans through the gates, City asked UEFA to look in to the issue.
However, UEFA declared themselves happy with the way things had been handled, prompting dismay and anger at City whose own travelling fans had been prevented by police from reaching an apartment overlooking the stadium from which they planned to watch the game.

Franck Ribery hit in the face with pitch invader's scarf during Bayern Munich's German Cup victory at Hamburg

A spectator ran on to the pitch and hit Franck Ribery with a scarf in stoppage time of Bayern Munich's 3-1 victory at Hamburg in the second round of the German Cup on Wednesday.
The man ran the width of the field before hitting the former France forward, who had secured victory for the cup holders. The intruder was caught by guards and escorted from the pitch.
'Fortunately, nothing much happened,' a relaxed and smiling Ribery told German television after the match. 'It was a difficult situation, I didn't see him coming.'

Ribery had been booed by Hamburg fans every time he touched the ball.

Fans angry with Greater Manchester Police behaviour before Stockport County v Chester FC game

Football fans claim they saw teenagers pushed and men being hit with police batons during heavy-handed tactics by police at a Chester FC away match.

Supporters have accused Greater Manchester Police (GMP) of being over the top claiming they were left battered and bruised following ‘chaos’ outside Edgeley Park stadium before the FA Cup tie on Saturday, October 25.

Blues and Stockport County fans contacted The Chronicle following the match, with one man saying he was left in ‘excruciating pain’ after being hit several times in the legs while waiting to get into the ground with his son.

But GMP have defended the actions of their officers saying their response was ‘justified’ and ‘proportionate’, in light of a number of incidents involving fans from both clubs who they say were ‘intent on antagonising each other and inciting violence’.

Police say they stepped up their response after incidents including a man being struck across the face with a glass and fans behaving in an intimidating manner in front of families out shopping with their children in Stockport.

Fans claim the chaos ensued as police pushed supporters who were trying to get through the turnstiles before kick-off.

Alan Byrne, 52, of Huntington, claims he had to be helped into the stadium by his son after being hit across the back of the legs several times with a baton.

The company director said: “As we neared the ground, suddenly the police became agitated and started to push people around and the whole situation became chaotic.

“I started to appeal to the police officers to calm down as it was obvious the chaos was being caused by them.

“For shouting ‘calm down’ at an officer, I was physically assaulted two or three times with a truncheon across the back of my legs.

“My son ran to my aid and we managed to get away from the thuggery of the police officers.

“I was in excruciating pain and clearly could not walk.”

One supporter sent a picture of a large bruise on his backside which he claims was inflicted by an officer who hit him as he was walking close to the stadium on the day of the match.

And a 22-year-old Stockport fan said: “I have been a fan for 10 years and never seen anything like this, it was disgusting.”

Superintendent Stuart Barton said: “It was evident before the Stockport vs Chester game that a number of supporters from both clubs were intent on antagonising each other and inciting violence.

“Given the aggressive atmosphere, our policing style had to change and we adopted proportionate tactics in order to calm the situation down and prevent innocent people who were there simply to watch the game from being hurt.

“It is always a shame when people attend football fixtures looking to cause trouble and deliberately incite other fans, which ruins the enjoyment of the game for everyone else.

“Our policing response was justified and proportionate in the circumstances our officers faced, but if anyone wants to make an official complaint they can do so and it will be investigated.”

UEFA sanction Slovan Bratislava and Sparta Prague - 30/10/2014

Slovan Bratislava and Sparta Prague have each been fined following crowd disturbances in their UEFA Europa League clash last week.

Sparta ran out 3-0 winners in the Slovak capital on Thursday in a match that was disrupted for a brief period prior to half-time due to crowd trouble at the Stadion Pasienky.

It was the first meeting between the sides since the break-up of Czechoslovakia in 1993 and the game looked in doubt when play was halted 42 minutes in.

While the Group I clash eventually resumed, both sides have now been sanctioned by UEFA for crowd disturbances.

As well as trouble in the stands, the Slovak club were also sanctioned for fans setting off fireworks and insufficient organisation, with UEFA handing out a fine of €50,000.

Sparta, sanctioned for "setting off/throwing of fireworks and missiles" alongside the crowd disturbances have been fined €80,000.

The Czech club have also been ordered to play one UEFA competition match as host behind closed doors, although this is deferred for a probationary period of two years.

Hamburg SV have lodged a complaint against one of their supporters, who ran onto the pitch and attacked winger Franck Ribery in Wednesday's 3-1 German Cup loss to Bayern Munich.

The fan, wearing a Hamburg top, stormed onto the pitch in second-half stoppage time, approached the Frenchman and slapped him in the face with a Hamburg scarf.

He then had time to make an obscene gesture before being caught by security and escorted out at the end of an otherwise peaceful and entertaining encounter.

"The club distances itself from the alleged 'HSV fan'," Hamburg said in a statement on Thursday.

"He was handed over to police. The club has already filed a complaint and will also issue a stadium ban for the man."

Hamburg had already apologised late on Wednesday to Bayern and their player via Twitter.
