Algeria: MC Saïda - USM Alger - 14/04/2012

Source : http://www.supersport.com

Violence at US Algers MC Saida game

USM Alger’s player and an official were hospitalised on Saturday following clashes between supporters during the club’s faceoff against MC Saida in the 25th round of the Algerian league.

Defender Abdelkader Laifaoui was stabbed with a knife while Abdellah Cherchar, a staff of USM, had his nose severely bruised during the brawl. Both men are still receiving treatment at the Mustapha Bacha hospital in Alger, according to the club’s vice president Rebbouh Haddad.

“I regret and I denounce what happened on Saturday at the Saida Stadium, caused by a bunch of wild and lawless supporters,” said Mahfoud Kerbadj, president of Algerian professional league (LFP). “I'm really disgusted and I find no words to express my disappointment,” he added. MC Saida’s supporters pounced upon fans of USM after the visitors equalised to settle the score at 1-1. The violence later spread to town, with hooligans vandalising and looting public buildings, while the police endeavoured to quell the situation.

Over 40 people were arrested according to an official report from Algeria interior ministry released on Sunday. Four other injured players of USM were treated and discharged from hospital on Saturday.

The LFP says it has opened investigations and that culprits will be severely sanctioned.

Turkey: Besiktas - Galatasaray - 16/04/2012

Source : http://www.ulkuhaberajansi.com + www.whoateallthepies.t

Emmanuel Eboue Suffers Another Horrible Attack By Besiktas Fans

Galatasaray wingback Emannuel Eboue has once again borne the brunt of some pretty horrible abuse from fans during a Turkish League game.

The former Arsenal man suffered some serious abuse from Besiktas fans back in November, and it’s apparent that the club’s supporters haven’t softened their attitude to the Ivorian star.

As well as pelting Eboue with bottles etc, a number of idiotic morons even attempted to attack the player on the pitch, but were luckily stopped in their tracks.

However, the question remains, just how much of the abuse aimed at Eboue is tinged with racism?

With the Emre incident as well, it’s not been a good week for the image of Turkish football, has it?

The Chelsea fans who chanted during Hillsborough silence at Wembley must be banned - 16/04/2012

Source : http://blogs.independent.co.uk

Ahead of yesterday’s FA Cup semi-final between Tottenham and Chelsea, a moment of reflection was scheduled before kick-off so that the 96 fans who lost their lives at Hillsborough in 1989 could be remembered.

It was to be a poignant moment, a moment when the 85,731 fans packed into Wembley Stadium would fall silent and have a chance to reflect on the tragic events of 23 years ago.

What occurred was a moment of embarrassment and shame. While the silence was observed by nearly all, a few in the Chelsea designated end of the stadium began to chant. In some places it has been reported they were chanting ‘murderers’, which only makes it worse. Referee Martin Atkinson was forced to cut the silence short with the shrill of his whistle. Boos followed from those who had been silent as they expressed their anger at the few.

Having attended hundreds of matches, there have been a handful of times when I and my fellow fans have been called upon to fall quiet. In all those instances, it has been impeccably observed. The power of that silence can be deafening. For 20,000 plus people to bring their conversations to an end, put bickering with opposing fans aside and join in reflection is incredibly powerful. With so many people in one place, the ability to hear the rotation of a turnstile back at the gates can feel disconcerting at first. But the setting for such a silence brings a unique opportunity think about those being remembered.

I went to yesterday’s game at Wembley to cover the match for The Independent and was expecting to share in that unique atmosphere with over 80,000 people. I was expecting a powerful moment but that was denied to me, and all the other normal minded people in the national stadium by the morons away to my left that decided to open their mouths. It was a disgrace, and such a shame.

On Sunday night Chelsea released a statement: “Chelsea Football Club is extremely disappointed that a very small minority of fans embarrassed the club by not honouring the moment’s silence before kick-off,” it read.

“Chelsea FC believes all moments of respect should be honoured and today we pay our full respects to all those that suffered as a result of the Hillsborough disaster 23 years ago.”

During the silence, the directors at ITV, who were televising the game, decided not to show the few who chanted. They should have. Hopefully some of those taking part would have been recognised by those that know them – their family, friends and employers. Had they been, perhaps they would have felt the embarrassment and shame they should.

Chelsea said in their statement that “the club will be working with Wembley and the FA to identify those responsible and if we are provided with evidence that season-ticket holders or members have been involved we will take the strongest possible action against them.”

The 85,000 people at Wembley were denied a chance to remember the Hillsborough tragedy. Viewers at home watching on television were stunned by the moronic behaviour of so-called football fans. The families of those who died were shown no respect. Those that took part deserve a punishment on par with the crime. By the “strongest possible action” that Chelsea describe in their statement, I hope they mean a life ban.

Hearts and Hibs fans to be segregated for big trip to Glasgow for Scottish Cup Final - 17/04/2012

Source : http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk

HIBS and Hearts fans heading to next month’s Scottish Cup final will be kept apart.
Police and rail chiefs are drawing up plans which will see supporters travelling west to Hampden packed on to separate trains. A booze ban on trains is also being considered.
British Transport Police said their top priority was to make sure the event was enjoyable for 50,000 supporters heading to the first all-Edinburgh cup final since 1896.
Their spokesman said: “We have vast experience of policing the transit of football supporters across Scotland.
“Our officers are going to ensure that a small minority will not be able to spoil the enjoyment of a wonderful day out to the Scottish Cup final for those who are a credit to their respective teams.”
ScotRail will lay on extra trains on May 19.
It is understood rival fans travelling from Edinburgh will be ushered on to separate services at the capital’s Waverley and Haymarket stations.
One set of supporters will travel from Edinburgh to Glasgow Central while the others head to Glasgow Queen Street.
Fans arriving at Queen Street will get a police escort to Central for their segregated train to Mount Florida, a short walk from Hampden.
The Strathclyde and Lothian and Borders forces said they will meet rail and council chiefs to hammer out security plans.

Ex-Birmingham Zulu: I'll always be seen as a hooligan - 16/04/2012

Source : http://www.birminghammail.net

THROUGHOUT his teens and much of his adult life, football was the only thing that mattered to Wally Wilkins.

He was barely out of his teenage years when he become a founding member of hooligan “firm” the Birmingham Zulus back in 1982.

During his time as an active member of the firm, Wally saw a very ugly side to the beautiful game.

“I got involved in football in an early age, going to matches,” said Wally, now 48.

“It was through peer pressure that I got myself involved – growing up in those days, football was part of youth culture.”

His zealous support for his team – and hatred of other fans – earned him a conviction for violent disorder and wounding.

With a family and business to think about, Wally said he is no longer an active Zulu, and these days prefers to watch games from an executive box.

He said: “You had to weigh up the odds of losing what you have got, and I wasn’t prepared to jeopardise the life I have now for football.

“You eventually grow up and grow out of it naturally.”

Wally was said his last arrest was in 2002 following the infamous “Battle of Rocky Lane” – when Villa and Blues thugs fought on the eve of the teams’ first top flight clash for 16 years – but he was cleared of any wrongdoing in court.

But despite the fact he is no longer an active Zulu, Wally said some will see him as a “hooligan” forever.

He said: “Police still have me marked as a hooligan, so I’ll never lose that tag as far as they are concerned.

“They pass the intelligence around and you will be marked out as one, it doesn’t matter that I haven’t been arrested for ten years, because it’s their job to do that.

“I went to the Chelsea FA Cup game last month and everybody was meeting at Victoria Station.

“As soon as I got in the pub, the police grabbed me, grabbed everyone and started searching us.

“I said to them ‘you must have a reason to think I’m going to be involved in trouble’. Another copper came over, pointed at me and said ‘Tottenham away last season’, and said I’d been pointed out as being an active hooligan.”

Wally said CCTV surveillance and football banning orders had given the police the “upper hand” against football hooligans, but said he would still bar his children from certain matches.

He said: “I take my children to the football, but with my eldest lads, if there are certain games where there is the potential for trouble then I’ll say they can’t go, and they understand.”

Scotland: Five men arrested after Old Firm pub incident - 19/04/2012

Source : http://news.stv.tv

Grampian Police act after disorder in Peterhead bar during Rangers v Celtic match.

Five football fans have been arrested after disorder in a pub in Peterhead during a Rangers versus Celtic game.

The men aged between 21 and 52 were apprehended by officers early on Wednesday evening following the incident during the Glasgow derby on Sunday, March 25.

Police have warned that further arrests "may be expected".

Inspector Kenny Coutts said: "These arrests should send out a clear message to the handful of people intent on using football as an excuse to commit acts of disorder, that behaviour of this type will not be tolerated.

"These acts occurred as a result of rival fans watching live coverage of the recent Rangers v Celtic game in Licensed premises and this should serve as a warning to others that football disorder in any shape or form is unacceptable."

The men had been expected to appear at Peterhead Sheriff Court on Thursday, but were released by the Crown pending further investigation.

A spokesman said: "After full and careful consideration by the procurator fiscal, they were liberated pending further investigation and did not appear in court in relation to this matter."

The men will be discussed at the next Pubwatch meeting where it is expected they will be banned from all licensed premises in the town.

England: 52 fans banned from Bristol football grounds - 19/04/2012

Source : http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk

THERE are now 52 football fans banned from Ashton Gate and the Memorial Stadium.

Avon and Somerset police have continued their crack-down on football-related violence and anti-social behaviour, securing punishments against three more hooligans in the last three weeks.

On March 30, Rovers fan Martin Sealey, 43, of Queens Road, Warmley, received a three-year football banning order (FBO) and a 12-week suspended prison sentence for public disorder after the FA Cup clash with Aston Villa in January.

On April 2, City fan Ryan Pearson, 22, of Whitmead Gardens, Hartcliffe, received a three-year FBO and a conditional discharge for his behaviour at the Championship game with Cardiff City last month.

And on April 10, 19-year-old Rovers fan Thomas Williams, of Prospect Close, Winterbourne, received a one-year prohibited activities requirement, which included not attending any regulated football match, following his arrest at the Villa match.

Out of the 52 fans banned in Bristol, 27 are City fans, 21 support Rovers and the remaining four are fans of clubs from outside the city.

Avon and Somerset's Force Football Officer Roger Thayer – pictured – said: "The message from Avon and Somerset police is – enjoy your football but if your intention is to try to disrupt games or spoil the enjoyment for genuine fans, you are likely to end up with a football banning order. We will remain relentless in our pursuit of football hooligans ensuring families feel safe at our football grounds.

"This season has been encouraging from a police point of view. The first month of the season saw no arrests being made and this has effectively been a springboard, which has seen few home arrests and generally good behaviour from fans over the season."

FBOs prevent holders from attending regulated football matches, in some cases travelling abroad when international matches are being played and it also prohibits them from visiting football stadia or their immediate surroundings on match days.

FBOs range from three to five years, if they are not subject to a custodial sentence.

For those who are imprisoned, they may extend to a period of between six and ten years.

Mr Thayer added: "Other conditions requested on a FBO may include exclusion zones around stadia before and after home fixtures and a day-long ban on travel to towns and cities where away matches are being played."

He said last season saw a slight decrease in arrests in the force area and away games, against a general national trend of increasing football-related offences.

"A total of 94 people were arrested for football-related incidents last season compared with 163 in 2009-2010 and 137 a year earlier."

This season, five people have been identified as breaching their football banning orders and have gone through the criminal justice system, one receiving a suspended prison sentence.

Mr Thayer added: "In Avon and Somerset we work closely with police colleagues across the country to identify and build intelligence profiles on known 'risk' supporters and those on the fringes.

"This, together with our partnership work with local football league clubs, enables us to target those intent on disrupting games or causing problems in the community before and after games. It enables us to create a safe and enjoyable environment for families visiting games in Avon and Somerset."

Viêt-Nam: Sai Gon Xuan Thanh - Song Lam Nghe An - 19/04/2012

Source : http://www.tuoitrenews.vn

SLNA fans turned hooligan at Thong Nhat Stadium

More than 3,000 football fans of Song Lam Nghe An flocked to Ho Chi Minh City-based Thong Nhat stadium on the afternoon of April 19 to cheer their side in the game against hosts Saigon FC in the late match at the 13th round in the V-League, and messed everything up there.

A few hours earlier, more than 200 fan-turned-hooligans also ran a riot around the city downtown.

As the second half covered only around 10 minutes, from the stands, SLNA fans repeatedly shouted out “Referee fixes the match,” in a protest to the main referee Phung Dinh Dung’s decision not to award their side a penalty kick at the 57th minute.

Minh Chuyen of SLNA kicked out a ball which later touched the arm of Dang Van Robert of Saigon FC, who was standing in the penalty area, but referee Dung only signaled the match to continue, without blowing his whistle.

The SLNA hooligans then collected all of the newspapers they brought with and set fire to them to continue their objections, sending the security force at Thong Nhat Stadium to hurriedly extinguishing the fire.

The extremist fans then continued to riot on the stands, and sent huge crowds to prevent the security force from stopping them.

As the match ended, the fans refused to leave but continued to set fire on the stand.

They only stopped when being attacked by water cannons.
