Atletico Madrid fans hurled bottles at riot police, smashed shop windows and torched cars in night-time battles in the Spanish capital Thursday after their Europa League win, police said. Police arrested 52 people for "serious public order disturbances" and used rubber bullets at one point to disperse violent crowds outside Madrid's Prado Museum, a police spokeswoman said. "Those arrested burned vehicles and public property, made barricades, broke shop windows, burned and threw flares, robbed and emptied fire extinguishers and ransacked shops," a police statement said. "They even caused damage to the main door of the Prado." In the clashes, a total of 37 people were injured, including 12 who were taken to hospital suffering mostly cuts and bruises, Madrid's emergency services said. Twelve police were among the injured, of whom seven needed hospital care, police said. Celebrations began in a party atmosphere in the minutes after Atletico Madrid's 3-0 win over fellow Spaniards Athletic Bilbao in Bucharest, giving them their second Europa League trophy in three seasons. Young men and women, many drinking beer, and children packed the main tree-lined avenues leading to the central Neptuno fountain, a stone statue of the god of the sea that is the club's home for victory parties. But riot officers backed by half a dozen blue police vans blocked many hundreds of fans from approaching close to the fountain, which was protected by steel barriers. The police action sparked howls of protest that rival Real Madrid fans had been allowed to celebrate sealing their Spanish league win May 2 at the Cibeles fountain just a few minutes' walk away. Police said some 12,000 people, mostly young, had packed around the square at the peak, shortly after midnight. "From then on the riots began. One group of individuals in the Paseo del Prado boulevard began to throw all kinds of objects at the police," the police statement said. "Stones, bottles, cobblestones and even flares were thrown at officers," it said. "Troublemakers spread across the area and started causing a great deal of damage to public property and shops," police added. "They burned vehicles and telephone booths, ransacked bars and food shops, burned containers, pulled down traffic lights, broke shop windows and bus shelters," the statement said. About 12 police vehicles were damaged.

Charlton Athletic: Addicks warned over pitch invasion - 10/05/2012
Source : english press (thanks to the sender)
Charlton have been warned by the Football Association after supporters entered the pitch following the club's away match at Carlisle United last month. The Addicks faced possible disciplinary action after fans ran on to the playing surface after the 1-0 win at Brunton Park secured promotion to the Championship for Charlton. Although the club will not be punished as a result of the incident, Charlton have been warned that further action will be taken should any similar incident occur in the future. Charlton's head of operations, Mick Everett, said: "We've been told that the FA does not propose to take any further action, but will consider the matter again if there are any further reports of spectator misconduct. "We believe that it's the right decision because the mood after the game was one of euphoria and celebration, and there was no hint of trouble. "But the club has a duty to stress that it is an offence to come on to the pitch, and anyone who does so faces a banning order and potential further action. We don't want to give the FA any reason to take action against the club in the future."
