Violence erupts in Greek cup final between PAOK and AEK Athens as fans clash with riot police

SHOCKING scenes of violence have emerged from the Greek cup final between PAOK and AEK Athens.
Riot police rushed to tackle the raging hooligans as flares were lit – leading to kick off being delayed.

Fans were pictured using a variety of objects as weapons – including a chair and poles.
The two sides were set to compete at the Panthessaliko Stadium but the violence meant the 6.30pm kick off could not get underway.
Fans climbed over a fence in the stadium as supporters ran riot, with police attempting to control them.

Police used tear gas in an attempt to diffuse the violence, while riot shields were also used.
This comes after there were doubts the game would go ahead after PAOK were unwilling to play at the OAKA stadium, which was the initial destination for the final.
PAOK then comprimised with officials after the final was moved to the Panthessaliko Stadium.

SBV Excelsior - Feyenoord Rotterdam - 07/05/2017

Source: http://www.espnfc.com/

Football fans clash with riot police in Rotterdam after 3-0 loss in the Dutch league descends into violence.

Fans turned on police after Feyenoord squandered the chance to win their first Eredivisie title in 18 years in suffering a 3-0 defeat at Excelsior in the Rotterdam derby on Sunday.
Some 50,000 fans had gathered in Feyenoord's De Kuip stadium to watch the match on giant screens, and to celebrate the coronation of their team as champions, but instead left disappointed.
Thousands more were gathered in Rotterdam city centre and some supporters turned on police after the match, throwing beer bottles, fireworks and chairs before riot police forced them out of the area. Local media reported that 30 people were detained for involvement in the violence.

FEYENOORD FANS FIGHT COPS AFTER SHOCKING FOOTBALL LOSS

A "small group of rioters" caused major disruptions in Rotterdam after Feyenoord's shocking 3-0 defeat by Excelsior on Sunday, the police said in a statement. Some 100 people were detained for crimes including challenging the police, throwing fireworks and stones, insulting police officers and not following the police's instructions.

The riot police performed several charges to try and disperse the group of rioters. When that had no effect, the water canon and police dogs were deployed. The police are also launching an investigation into other rioters and expect that more will be identified and arrested during the course of the week.

About 100 thousand people were in Rotterdam to watch the match between Feyenoord and crosstown rival Excelsior. When it became clear that Feyenoord would not win this match, and thereby not become the Netherlands champion for the first time in 18 years, the atmosphere in the city changed from excited to disappointed and shocked, according to the police. "By far the largest group of supporters trailed away still during the match or shortly after it. Some of them stayed to give the players encouraging words when they got onto the player bus, welcome the team warmly at De Kuip and wish them well with next week's match", the police said in their statement. "However, a group of hundreds of 'fans' could not deal with the loss and decided to take out their frustration on the police and street furniture in Rotterdam city center."

According to Rotterdam Mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb, next week's planned celebration for Feyenoord's title victory will not be affected by the disturbances on Sunday, NOS reports. He said that Sunday's disruptions "do not fall into the category of heavy riots", and the celebration therefore does not have to be scrapped. He called the riots "one of the scenarios we took into account". Aboutaleb added that he is "disappointed for Feyenoord, but also happy for Excelsior", which is also based in Rotterdam.

Feyenoord is facing Heracles at De Kuip in Rotterdam on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Ajax will close the season with an away match against Willem II.

Violent Clash Between Football Hooligans at Greek Cup Final Ends With €300,000 in Damages - 09/05/2017

Source: http://greece.greekreporter.com/

Following clashes between PAOK and AEK fans before the Greek Cup Final on Saturday in the Panthessaliko Stadium in Volos, some 300,000 euros worth of damage is reported to have been inflicted on the stadium — a bill which the Hellenic Football Federation is responsible for, stadium manager Tassos Milanos said according to ekathimerini.com.
According to Milanos, there was concern prior to the match between PAOK and AEK that the stadium was not suitable to host the game between the two rival teams, and the end result has proven this sentiment to be true.
Over 2,000 seats were torn up in the stadium by hooligans, while the bathrooms, CCTV cameras and other equipment were completely destroyed.

Tearful young ballboy runs onto soccer field after hooligans set off fireworks near him

A soccer game in the Netherlands was temporarily suspended after a group of rowdy fans set off several fireworks near a young ballboy, sending the 13-year-old running onto the pitch crying Friday. The sounds of the blasts that occurred during the second-tier match between Den Bosch and Dordrecht could clearly be heard on the television broadcast.

Referee Siemen Mulder blew his whistle to halt the game just seconds later, while the camera panned to a young ballboy who had run onto the field to escape the chaos. Along with fireworks, the group of Den Bosch “ultras,” as European soccer’s most rowdy fans are known, allegedly threw Roman candles and other explosives onto the field, Dutch website BD.nl reports.

In the meantime, Den Bosch captain Romero Regales came to the tearful boy’s aid, consoling him as he escorted him to the other side of the field.

[‘It was just instinct’: Soccer referee goes viral for doing ‘Matrix-level’ splits during youth match]

Mulder halted the game for 15 minutes before restarting it, but a disturbance in the second half would result in another unplanned intermission. In that case, a fan reportedly fell ill, requiring emergency assistance. The fan was reportedly conscious when the ambulance finally left 10 minutes later.

Den Bosch, which ended up winning the game 1-0, released a statement after the game, noting the ballboy named Jens was checked out by the team doctor for a ringing in his ears and is now doing well.

“Jens and his parents watched the second half of the game as our guests in the sponsorship suite, and we agreed that next week we’ll make a visit to his house and bring a nice gift along,” Den Bosch executive Theo Teelen said via the club’s website. “This made Jens smile.”

Teelen also said that as Den Bosch seeks to grow, perhaps one day rising to the top-tier of Dutch soccer, the ultras’ bad behavior must stop.

“We cannot allow it. Not now, not ever,” he said. “FC Den Bosch has come a long way and we still a way to go. We’re going in the right direction … Therefore, fireworks should not be allowed in our home stadium.”

Police arrest nine football fans after trouble broke out during West Brom’s Premier League clash with Chelsea

Police arrested nine football fans last night after trouble broke out during West Brom’s Premier League clash with Chelsea at the Hawthorns.
Footage emerged online of Chelsea supporters clashing with West Brom fans who had sneaked into the home end and celebrated a late goal that clinched the Premier League title for the visitors.

The scuffles led to the Premier League match being temporarily halted in the closing stages after some Chelsea fans ran on the pitch.
The celebrations led to clashes and stewards and police had to wade in to break up confrontations.
A late goal from Michy Batshuayi was enough to seal the title for Antonio Conte’s side and sparked celebrations from Chelsea fans in the home stands.

About a dozen stewards and police officers descended on a small section of the Birmingham Road end in order to prevent fighting.
Albion fans reacted angrily about the scenes at the Hawthorns on Twitter with @juliehaffner tweeting: “I just felt sorry for the kids who were sitting there and was scared, a little girl in front of me was scared, it was horrible.”

Another from @stuwba68 said: “If it was other way round at Stamford Bridge and Albion fans running on pitch both media and FA would be all over it.”
Chief Inspector Nick Rowe, from West Midlands Police’s operations unit, said: “Police arrested a total of nine people during last night’s between West Bromwich Albion and Chelsea at The Hawthorns.
"Overall it was a great evening match with an intense atmosphere, with the majority of fans behaving really well and enjoying the game, with only relatively minor issues dealt with by officers."

A group of Brentford fans descended on Putney ‘just to fight’ Fulham supporters after Championship play-off match with Reading

A group of Brentford FC supporters went to Putney after this weekend’s play-off match allegedly “just to fight” Fulham FC fans.
A source told the Wandsworth Guardian police had approached “most of the venues” near Putney Station on May 13 to warn them of a group of 15 to 20 men “causing trouble”.
Fulham, who are favourites to be promoted to the Premier League, were playing Reading in the play-off semi-finals at Craven Cottage.
The match ended just before 7.30pm and there was a “significant” police presence in Upper Richmond Road.
Our source said: “They were causing trouble at most venues around Putney.
“It was stupid because their team was not even playing.
“They came down just to fight.
“At one point they had to escort Fulham supporters to safety.”
Fulham supporter Jay Adlington, who was at the match on Saturday, said: “We did notice the extra police on Saturday, but thought it was just a precaution for the play-offs.”
Brentford FC declined to comment.
