Fan behaviour 'worst in 20 years' warns police leader as Celtic fan fights for life - 02/04/2019

Source : https://www.heraldscotland.com/

David Hamilton, vice-chairman of the Scottish Police Federation, said match authorities are battling "an escalation in violence".

Season 18/19 - April 19040210390391107

It comes as the 47-year-old fighting for his life after a mass street brawl in Glasgow between rival fans was named as Francis McCann, from Drumpchapel.

The Celtic fan, who was stabbed in the neck during the fight in the Merchant City area, remains critically ill in hospital.

Police are treating the attack as attempted murder and investigations are ongoing.

Two other men, aged 29 and 30, were also stabbed in what Police Scotland have described as serious assaults.

The incident, which broke out shortly after 5pm on Sunday March 31, came just hours after a bad-tempered 2-1 showdown between Celtic and Rangers at Parkhead stadium.

Mr Hamilton said the behaviour of players had been unacceptable during the match, exacerbating tensions between fans.

Rangers pair Alfredo Morelos and Andy Halliday were shown red cards for clashes with Celtic captain Scott Brown.

Brown had celebrated in front of Rangers fans at full-time led to a bust-up with Halliday which sparked a mass fracas.

Some Celtic fans spilled on to the pitch after their side's opener and flares were also thrown during the match.

Mr Hamilton told BBC's Sportsound: "It's despairing the way some fans are behaving in Scottish football," Hamilton said. "We're seeing an escalation in violence both in terms of severity and frequency.

"At the weekend, some of the officers who were working at Celtic Park were saying it's the worst they've seen in 15-20 years of service.

"An officer had a flash-bang thrown at him that just missed his head."

It comes amid warnings from Justice Minister Humza Yousaf that he will not rule out legislating for strict liability, which would see clubs held responsible for fans behaviour at grounds.

Campaigners believe it would help tackle sectarianism and hooliganism.

Source : https://onefootball.com/

Dinamo Zagreb have been ordered to play their next European match behind closed doors for the racist behaviour of their supporters against Benfica, UEFA confirmed on Monday.

UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body also ordered the Croatian champions to pay a €20,000 fine, while a second one-match stadium ban has been deferred for two years.

Dinamo were fined a further €47,000 for other offences, including setting off fireworks, throwing objects and blocking stairways in the Europa League last-16 match on March 7.

UEFA : Chelsea Fined €12,819 by UEFA After Fan Trouble During Europa League Win Over Malmo - 01/04/2019

Source : https://www.90min.com/

Chelsea are to be fined €12,819 by UEFA, after they were charged for fan trouble during their Europa League trip to Malmo in February.

The Blues won the round of 32 first leg by two goals to one in Sweden, but reports of unsavoury incidents involving visiting supporters - including a pitch invasion where one supporter accosted Eden Hazard for his shirt - soon overshadowed the match itself.

An announcement was swiftly made confirming both Chelsea and Malmo had been charged in relation to the incident, and Sky Sports have confirmed via Twitter that the Stamford Bridge side have been slapped with an €12,819 fine.

Hazard later played down the headline incident, saying the fan "just asked for his shirt", but the UEFA charges levelled at the club also mentioned objects being thrown on the field.

It's not the first controversy to emerge surrounding Chelsea supporters this season, as they escaped punishment after allegations of anti-semitic chanting during the trip to Hungary to face Vidi in December, and video footage emerged of Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling allegedly being racially abused by a small number of home supporters at Stamford Bridge.

Cagliari - Juventus - 02/04/2019

Source : http://www.espn.com/

Moise Kean suffers racist abuse after scoring in Juventus' win at Cagliari

Juventus striker Moise Kean was the subject of jeers, boos and racist abuse from the home supporters during his team's 2-0 Serie A win away to Cagliari on Tuesday night.

Kean, 19, took particular heat after scoring his team's second goal and celebrating in front of the home fans.

In response, Cagliari's supporters made the noise which is described by Italian media as "buu" and is regarded as a racist insult in Italian football, although some fans argue it is simply to annoy opposing players regardless of race.

Monkey noises could also be heard among the crowd.

Shortly after Kean's goal, Juve's French midfielder Blaise Matuidi, who tweeted support for his teammate after the match, protested furiously to the referee and at one point appeared to threaten to walk off.

Matuidi complained last year that he was subject to racist abuse at the same stadium and Cagliari later apologised, while Serie A absolved their fans of wrongdoing in 2017 when Pescara's Sulley Muntari left the field after he said he heard racist insults directed at him.

Play was halted on Tuesday and a warning was broadcast to the crowd -- the first step in the so-called three-step procedure which ultimately leads to the teams being led off the field. Play resumed amid more booing and the referee blew the final whistle shortly afterwards.

However, following the match, Juventus defender Leonardo Bonucci said he thought the blame for racist abuse aimed at his teammate Kean was "50-50."

"You celebrate goals with your teammates," Bonucci said. "He could have done it differently... I think the blame is 50-50. Moise should not have done that and the Curva should not have reacted in that way."

Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri said he had been too immersed in the game to notice the abuse.

"As usual at the stadium there are idiots but also normal people," he said. "The uncivilised ones must be identified with the cameras and no longer allowed to enter."

Cagliari president Tommaso Giulini blamed Kean for his celebration.

"I heard mostly boos, if they started making animal noises then we were in the wrong," he said. "What happened at the end was because of a celebration which was wrong and it would have happened with any other player."

Mino Raiola, the agent of both Kean and Matuidi, defended his clients and told AFP that there can be no justification for racism.

"I'm proud of my lads and I am with them to the end," he said. "You need courage and severe penalties for people who behave in a racist manner and who justifies racism in any way. We need to be united against racism.

"You can't be Italian and racist at the same time."

In December, Inter Milan were ordered to play two home games behind closed doors after Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly was racially insulted during a game at San Siro.

Chemnitzer FC: Far-right tribute taints German football club - 02/04/2019

Source : https://hanahanherald.com/

The German football club Chemnitzer FC is at the centre of a row after fans mourned a far-right activist and known hooligan in the stadium before a match.

The fourth-league club says it is now pressing charges because banned flags were displayed. A big banner honoured the deceased activist, Tommy Haller, reading: “Rest in peace, Tommy”.

A player was fined for joining in the tribute, by holding up a black T-shirt.

Chemnitz, an eastern city, saw big far-right demonstrations last August.

Chemnitzer FC chief executive Thomas Uhlig has resigned, accepting responsibility for the controversial tribute that gripped the stadium before Saturday‘s match against Altglienicke, which ended in a 4-4 draw.

A minute‘s silence was held in honour of Haller, who was also shown on the stadium‘s video screen.

In a statement on Monday the club said it was working with prosecutors to establish why the far-right tribute was allowed to happen.

Nazi-style glorification
Club officials, the statement said, “object to all forms of far-right activism and are not ready to bow to those ideologies, nor to surrender football in Chemnitz”.

Unnamed officials are quoted as saying there had been far-right threats of “massive clashes” if the club refused to allow the tribute.

The fans – some burning flares – displayed a big white cross on a black background, as well as the banner glorifying Tommy Haller in traditional gothic script, in a style recalling Nazi-era theatrics.

German media report that Haller co-founded a group called HooNaRa – short for “Hooligans, Nazis, Racists” – in the 1990s, which was disbanded in 2007, but remained active informally.

German MDR news, which covers the Chemnitz region, says Haller ran a security firm that employed stewards in the stadium.

He also built up the far-right youth scene in the city and took part in the violent far-right protests there last August, MDR reports.

The anti-immigrant activists were enraged by the fatal stabbing of a Chemnitz man. Two men – an Iraqi and a Syrian – were arrested over that incident.

Footballer in trouble
After scoring a goal on Saturday, Chemnitzer FC striker Daniel Frahn held up a black T-shirt bearing the slogan, in English: “Support your local hools” – German slang for “hooligans”.

On Sunday he apologised, saying he had acted “in solidarity with the relatives” of Haller, knowing that those T-shirts had been sold to help pay for his medical care.

“I didn‘t know that that T-shirt was so widespread in the Nazi scene,” he said. The size of Frahn‘s fine has not been disclosed.

In a further blow to the club, its main sponsor, the Sparkasse Chemnitz bank, says it will end its sponsorship deal at the end of this season. The deal is reported to be worth €170,000 annually.

Stabbed Celtic fan Francis McCann ‘wounded in organised casuals brawl’ after being knifed in neck in Glasgow - 03/04/2019

Source : https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/

The dad, 47, is still fighting for life in hospital after being knifed in the neck following Sunday’s Old Firm clash.

STABBED Celtic fan Francis McCann may have been wounded as an organised brawl between footie hooligans took place, it’s claimed.

The dad, 47, is still fighting for life in hospital after being knifed in the neck following Sunday’s Old Firm clash.

It’s now emerged cops are facing a “wall of silence” as they probe the shameful violence in Glasgow city centre after the final whistle.

An insider said: “When a large disturbance like this breaks out after a high-profile match, something that needs to be looked at is whether it was a pre-planned meet between football casuals.

“It’s possible this was pre-arranged online between rival sides.

“There’s still an element of so-called fans who will use football as an excuse for violence and disorder.”

The source added of the 5pm murder bid on Francis: “Police have hit a wall of silence. No one is coming forward, despite a large number of individuals being involved in the disturbance.

“It could be that he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

Francis, of the city’s Drumchapel, remains in a critical condition in hospital.

Cops are also trying to establish if two other men, aged 29 and 30 — who were stabbed in the Merchant City — were caught up in hooligans’ pre-planned violence.

They have now been discharged from hospital.

Officers reckon there may be more victims of the rammy — which erupted after Celtic beat Rangers 2-1 at Parkhead — who have not yet come forward.

On Monday, cops sealed off a car park yards from where Francis was attacked.

The former wasteland is a known meeting place for footie casuals.

Another insider told how more hooligans now carry weapons.

They said: “Some of them are tooling up so others are doing the same in case they come under attack. These groups are very well organised and can communicate via messaging services to make all the arrangements for a fight.

“Back in the 80’s and 90’s, gangs would use their fists and their feet in their fights, but never knives.

“The emerging groups are a lot younger and think carrying a blade is the way forward.”

Police Scotland said detectives “couldn’t rule anything out”.

We told how the Scottish Police Federation had branded the weekend violence the worst in 20 years.

Vice-chair David Hamilton said: “No reasonable person can look at that game and not be ashamed.”

Three injured after hooligan-related attack

Three supporters of AEK Athens were hospitalized Friday with serious injuries, one with knife wounds, after being attacked by a group of men, believed to be OIympiakos fans, who also torched their car on the national highway between Athens and the town of Lamia in central Greece.

According to reports, the incident occurred at around 2.30 a.m. near the Traganas toll station when an unknown number of vans without license plates blocked the road, forcing a car with five AEK supporters to stop.

Police said the five men were then viciously attacked by between 40 and 50 individuals. The local LamiaReport website said the attack was organized and that the culprits wore hoods or helmets and carried knives, clubs and bats.

Argentina combats violence in football: 128 hooligans banned from stadiums during four years - 06/04/2019

Source : https://emercopress.com/

More than 100 members of Boca Junior's 'barra bravas' – among them hooligan leaders Rafael Di Zeo and Mauro Martín – will not be able to enter Argentine football stadiums for the next four years, according to a resolution posted in the Argentine Official Gazette on Thursday.

The measure, laid out in a resolution issued by the Dirección Nacional de Seguridad de Espectáculos Deportivos (National Directorate for the Safety of Sporting Events), affects a total of 128 football hooligans who are currently facing prosecution in the courts for criminal offences.

Under its terms the hooligans – including Di Zeo and Martín, who were handed two-year bans in April 2017 – will now be unable matches for four years. The ban does not apply to games Boca plays outside of Argentina, which do not fall under the government's jurisdiction.

The move is part of a government-led bit to tackle Argentina's endemic problems with hooliganism and violence related to football matches in Argentina. The country's politicians have been wrestling with the problem of football hooligans for years. The issue attracted international attention last November when the second leg of the all-Argentine Copa Libertadores final was cancelled after River Plate fans attacked the Boca team bus.

President Mauricio Macri administration is seeking to introduce a new bill to Congress that would increase penalties for fans engaging in illegal activity at local football matches. The government, which originally wanted to introduce legislation to that end in 2016, wants to stiffen existing penalties for crimes that take place in and around stadiums.

Salvemos del Futbol, an Argentine group founded to fight violence in football, lists 10 football related deaths in 2018 and 143 in the last 20 years.

Away fans have been banned at matches in the Argentine Superliga since 2013, and though the ban was relaxed last August, it still applies to fans of the five biggest clubs.
