Saint-Etienne fans injured in fight with Lyon supporters

A fight involving fans of French league clubs Saint-Etienne and Lyon has left nine people injured ahead of the grudge match between the fierce rivals.

French authorities said a fight broke out on Saturday night in the center of Lyon after a group of hardcore Saint-Etienne fans decided to disregard a travel ban preventing them from attending Sunday's game at the Parc OL stadium.

According to a French official with direct knowledge of the incidents who was not authorized to speak publicly as a matter of practice, the fight involved about 200 fans who were dispersed by police. Nine Saint-Etienne supporters were injured in the scuffle and three of them have been transported to a nearby hospital with head injuries.

Among the most popular clubs in France, Saint-Etienne and Lyon are separated by only 60 kilometers (37 miles) and their rivalry is one of the fiercest in French football.

Union Berlin game suspended after further fan protests

The Bundesliga saw further protests against Hoffenheim investor Dietmar Hopp on Sunday, twice prompting the referee to stop play during Wolfsburg and Union Berlin’s 2-2 draw.

Offensive banners insulting Hopp were unveiled by Union Berlin fans just before half-time prompting the referee to stop the game and order the players back into the dressing rooms. Union’s players went over to the home tribune to plead with fans to take down the banners, with captain Christopher Trimmel seen in direct conversation to one of the ultras in a bid to get the game re-started.

A later protest against the Deutscher Fußball-Bund’s (DFB) position on collective punishments and a perceived ‘currying of favour’ with Hopp saw the game stopped again as fans were warned that another indiscretion would lead to match being called off.

The incidents occurred after similar scenes at Hoffenheim’s Rhein-Neckar-Arena during Bayern Munich’s 6-0 win on Saturday. There Bayern players and executives also tried to intervene to get banners insulting Hoop taken down as the game was held up for 20 minutes.

Hopp has been a lightning rod for some German fans, who oppose the way he used his wealth to help Hoffenheim climb through the lower leagues to the Bundesliga with consecutive promotions more than a decade ago.

CSKA Sofia have been fined 37,500 levs ($21,343) for the racist behaviour of their fans during their domestic league match against Tsarsko Selo on Saturday, the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) said on Monday.

Tsarsko Selo’s Congolese striker Dylan Bahamboula was subjected to racially abusive and insulting words by CSKA fans after scoring the winning goal in his team’s 2-1 win.

Bahamboula was also fined 4,000 levs for reacting angrily and making an offensive gesture towards CSKA supporters.

“I’m sorry about what happened,” the 24-year-old striker said.

“But all of you heard what came from the stands. The football is for all, it’s not important whether you’re black or white. It also happened to me in Romania but nowhere else,” added Bahamboula, who played for Romanian club Astra Giurgiu in 2018.

Tottenham players confronted supporters at the stand

Tottenham retire from the FA Cup after losing to Norwich on penalties. After the match, "Spurs" midfielder Eric Dier gave up on the stand and ended up in a fight with a supporter who must have offended the player. "Eric did something that professionals can't do, but everyone had done," coach José Mourinho said at the press conference after.

Dier climbed up onto the stand behind the benches and started arguing with the supporter who must have offended him in some way. Security guards also came to the scene to sort out the situation.

- I repeat: We professionals can't do that, but I stand behind the player and understand him. The supporters were with the team until the last penalty we missed.

Mourinho says that Dier's family was badly hurt.

- This person offended Eric. The family was there and Eric's little brother was not happy with the situation.

In what is becoming an all too familiar theme in the German top-flight, supporters have continued to air their grievances against the country’s FA

Supporters in the Bundesliga continue to take aim at the German Football Association (DFB), with more angry banners unfurled at top-flight fixtures on Saturday.

Hoffenheim’s controversial owner Dietmar Hopp also remains a target for disgruntled supporters of rival clubs.

Both he and the DFB figured prominently in the protests which emerged again in the latest round of fixtures.

Games at Schalke, Freiburg, Hertha Berlin and Wolfsburg all saw public shows of dissent.

Borussia Dortmund fans have faced sanctions in the recent past for having acted out against the German football authorities.

Bayern Munich’s meeting with Hoffenheim last weekend was halted when supporters took to insulting Hopp with home-made banners.

The reigning champions, who saw their last outing descend into chaos as players were removed from the field before the clock ticked down with the ball knocked around slowly between those on the field, were widely condemned for having joined the protests.

Leading figures at the Allianz Arena spoke out against the actions of a minority and offered their apologies to Hopp.

The billionaire businessman has irked followers of other clubs for supposedly buying success.

Schalke had him in their sights when playing host to Hoffenhaim, with a banner offered in response to Bayern’s which read “Dietmar Hopp remains the son of a whore”

“We apologise to all whores for having associated them with Mr Hopp,” said those involved.

Real Madrid extreme Ultra Sur group given access to Benito Villamarin

In the minutes leading up to kick-off between Real Betis and Real Madrid, there was a surprise as a group of Los Blancos' supporters from the Ultra Sur group made their way into the stadium.They were given access into the Estadio Benito Villamarin and were sat behind the north goal, where the Betis players were warming up.Police identified that members of the group were buying tickets online and in ticket offices early on Sunday and requested that Betis stop selling tickets, a request that the club fulfilled, despite still having tickets available.

The fans made their way to Seville in their own cars and sat together, with a large number of police surrounding them.The tickets sold to them were not the tickets that Betis made available for Real Madrid fans through the club's official channels.With the game underway, the police asked the fans to sit in their seats and they voluntarily left, as Betis' communications department has reported.
