Five Plymouth Argyle fans have been banned from football after a mass brawl broke out between rival supporters during a match at Home Park. Lewis Harris, aged 25, Dylan Yardley, aged 20, Thomas Dunne, aged 29, George Mitchell, aged 25, and 20-year-old Keiran Harries have been told to stay away from the ground and not travel to other cities where the Pilgrims are playing.

Plymouth magistrates handed the five men Football Banning Orders after they admitted causing trouble during the League One game against Wigan Athletic. Harris was given a five-year order and the others were barred from the game for three years.

Both the Football Association and Argyle launched inquiries as supporters broke from their segregated areas and clashed in the Barn Park Stand. Police launched their own investigation, leading to the prosecutions.

Disorder involving about 30 fans broke out when the visitors scored a last-minute goal to win the match 2-1. Argyle swiftly put out a statement that night to condemn the violence, stating a "zero tolerance" policy.

All five men pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour causing fear of violence on Saturday November 27.

Harris, of Rydal Close, Estover, was given a 12-month community order with 160 hours unpaid work. Mitchell, of Ayreville Road, Beacon Park, was also given a similar order with the same amount of unpaid work, but also with probation's Rehabilitation Activity Requirement. Yardley, of Courtney Street, Newton Abbot, was fined £300.

Dunne, of Deacons Green, Tavistock, was fined £400 and Harries, of York Place, Stoke, was fined £500. Each of the five men must also pay £85 costs. Harris, Yardley and Dunne must pay £42 victim surcharge while Harries must find £50 and Mitchell £95.

Football Banning Orders, always at least three years long, are automatic for criminal offences at matches and sometimes outside grounds and on the way to games. The men are banned from attending any Argyle or any other league match.

They are further banned from going into any town or city on any day when Argyle are playing away, from six hours before until six hours after the game. The defendants are also barred from Central Park around the stadium on any home matchday, again from six hours before kick-off until six hours after the final whistle.

The five men are also banned from any city where the England men’s team are playing in England, Wales and Scotland.

Devon and Cornwall Police published CCTV stills of 15 suspected WIgan fans they wanted to talk to about trouble in and around the Barn Park Stand. A force spokesman has said that officers could not offer any information beyond what is held in court records.

Argyle issued a statement on that Saturday night which read: "The club has launched an investigation into the events that occurred during our Sky Bet League One fixture against Wigan Athletic. A disturbance broke out in the Barn Park End during the closing stages of our 2-1 defeat on Saturday afternoon, and footage will be reviewed as a matter of urgency.

"Argyle is a family and fan-focused football club. Irrespective of the findings of the investigation, the club thoroughly condemns the motives of those who seek to cause trouble at Home Park, or elsewhere. We hold a zero-tolerance policy for this sort of behaviour, and swift and firm action will be taken against individuals found to have been responsible."

The disturbance in the Barn Park Stand involved a very small minority of the 15,329 crowd who packed into Home Park. Before kick-off there was a minute's silence in memory of Bobbi-Anne McLeod, with supporters all around the stadium standing to pay their respects to the 18-year-old, whose body was found a few days before.

Argyle travel to Wigan for a key top-of-the-table clash in the return fixture on April 23.

Following the saga between the Bordeaux ultras group, the Ultramarines, and their goalkeeper Benoît Costil, which began on Sunday at half-time during their league game against Montpellier (2-0 defeat), the group have published an official statement explaining their view on the situation, via Twitter.

The Statement

The match against Montpellier, which took place last week, and which saw our club defeated once again just a few gameweeks away from the end of the season, is a major turning point. And not just in a sporting sense. In this respect, and while an unprecedented outpouring of hate is targeted towards us, our group, as well as our spokesperson, it appears very important to express ourselves today.

During the first half, an incident of the utmost importance occurred on the pitch, where Benoît Costil shamelessly attacked Anel Ahmedhozic. No, it was not a “normal part of the game”, as it has sometimes been reported, but a very serious incident. The South Stand was not mistaken, booing the Girondins’ goalkeeper.

An even more serious event, since it aligns with the scandalous behaviour of Costil in the past months, whose influence in the dressing room has been recognised as harmful. These are irrefutable facts for all those who know the reality of the dressing room.

The peak of the issue, while our club is last and the supporters are submerged in sadness but still loyal to their position, the latter allows himself to accuse us, in a scandalous manner and under the eyes of all, of being sell-outs to the new management. These are unjustified and unjustifiable attacks, simply because we have not decided to go ‘Hara-Kiri’ in asking for everyone’s head, during the worst slump the club has seen since the middle of the 20th century.

We must be clear: the words and actions of Benoît Costil are the greatest offence the South Stand has known on the part of a player since its creation. A brilliant compensation for a stand that everyone praises for its loyalty in these abominable times, for its passionate fans who still make financial sacrifices to follow the team over hundreds of kilometres.

This affront should not go without consequences. Also, the squad, through the duty of integrity, owes the truth to the members of the stand.

In the 80th minute, while our team, even with 11 men against 9, was unable to look dangerous and while the match was over, we revealed serious information, which we have known for a long time.

A little under six months ago, we were warned by a former employee of the behaviour and the words of racist nature within the squad, this witness expressly naming Benoît Costil and Laurent Koscielny as responsible. Stunned by the gravity of the facts, we searched to know more. Quickly, this witness was confirmed by one and then a second current employee. Absolutely everything lined up. An internal inquest was undertaken inside the club.

From our side, we chose to wait to reveal this information we had at our disposal, in order not to knock down our club which is going through some very difficult weeks.

This information was finally revealed in the stand on Sunday. It couldn’t be done any other way.

We know that attacking professional players, with the network we know they have, is also exposing oneself. Especially since, as anticipated, the guilty, but equally the victims, are denying completely everything. It happens to be the first time that the dressing room is in solidarity. Faced with this code of silence, the words of some temporary workers of the Girondins de Bordeaux seem not to have any weight.

Let’s be factual: aside from the fact that the witnesses have proved their integrity over many years, they have no reason to lie. The players and their friends have every reason to protect themselves. We’ve spent enough time with the professional world to know its codes, and how it works. We know that it can unfold too.

And what does it matter if we come out a little black and blue? It was our duty to transmit this information to the general public and to put the club in front of its responsibilities.

Today, we believe we have once again played our role as whistleblowers, as we did with the broadcasting of Leaks, as well as other information. He who says we are often wrong is dishonest indeed.

Several incidents broke out during the football match between the HAC and the Caen team at Stade Malherbe, Saturday March 19, 2022. In addition to a fight in the Le Havre KOP and a seat thrown on the lawn during the match, clashes broke out after the match between the police and Le Havre supporters, on the forecourt of the stadium. Three men were arrested.

Shortly after the end of the match, a substitute from 1. FC Kaiserslautern was hit in the shoulder by a mug thrown from the Freiburg ultras stand, as now announced by the police.
The SC Freiburg club reported the facts directly to the police, "who were able to immediately provisionally arrest the pitcher".

During the spectator exit that followed, there was tension between two tram stops between supporters of the two teams.
Near a gas station, a fan scarf was also torn from an FCK fan during physical attacks. This resulted in violent clashes between supporters of both sides, which triggered a major police operation. Several ultras from Freiburg were arrested on the spot.

Hooligans acted on a train en route to Bielefeld with the sheer will to destroy. According to the Federal Police, the violent supporters were Hannover 96 supporters, around 80 of whom were on the ICE train from Essen to Hannover on the return trip from the first leg to Gelsenkirchen (1-2 v Schalke 04).

“During the journey, one of the train cars was demolished in such a way that it had to be closed,” the federal police reported on Monday. When the train stopped in Bielefeld, federal police officers found numerous windows and doors inside the train destroyed.

More Greece Soccer Violence, Six Arrested for Attacking Player

Despite vows by the New Democracy government to crack down on soccer-related violence after a 19-year-old Thessaloniki student was killed in an attack over rivalries, it has continued in the country.

Six soccer fans, aged 22-42, were arrested and charged with assault over an attack against a soccer player in Kilkis, in northern Greece after a lower league game between Apollon Pefkodasous and Makedonikos Grivas.

The 36-year-old victim told the police he was set up and physically attacked by a group of 10 men outside his home in the town of Polykastro, said Kathimerini, and take to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The motive behind the attack was not immediately clear, the report said, adding that a 26-year-0ld suspect filed a suit against the player for causing bodily harm and also treated at the hospital, but it wasn’t clarified.

The government said it would go after soccer club headquarters reportedly being used by hooligans to play attacks against rival fans, with violence also common in the stands during games and fans allowed to bring in weapons.

There’s potential for more trouble as COVID-19 health measures are being eased and will see full stadiums with no restrictions anymore on the number of fans attending although they’re allegedly required to wear masks, be vaccinated or have a COVID recovery certificate.

Nigeria supporters storm pitch, riot after team misses out on World Cup qualification

Nigeria fans stormed the pitch as the fallout from their surprise failure to reach the World Cup finals started immediately after the final whistle of Tuesday's 1-1 home playoff draw with Ghana in Abuja that sealed the home team's fate.

Fans at the stadium reacted to the result, which saw Nigeria miss out on a trip to Qatar on the away goals rule, by throwing objects at both the small group of visiting fans in the Moshood Abiola National Stadium and the Ghana players.

Local security was slow to react to the violence, which included a pitch invasion on the final whistle, and the Ghana players were left to battle their own way toward the tunnel in scenes that will no doubt draw the ire of the Confederation of African Football and FIFA.

A 46-year-old man was given an eight-month suspended sentence for violating a ban on the operation of sports fan clubs or associations imposed by the government until July 31 as part of its wider crackdown on sports-related violence in the wake of the murder of 19-year-old man earlier in the year by hooligans in northern port city of Thessaloniki.

The man was arrested by police after they found some 20 people watching a soccer game on the premises of his association in the area of Kordelio.

The defendant’s defense denied the charge, arguing that individuals were there to help shut down the association pursuant to state decisions.
