Relatively calm Antwerp derby

Apart from a hot moment at the entrance to the stadium, forced by a few dozen Antwerp supporters, the Derby was fairly calm according to the police.

Police arrested four people in front of grandstand 4. "The fans climbed the fences," said Willem Migom, Antwerp police spokesman. “One of them had to be taken to hospital. He was arrested  for hitting a policeman. The other three were administratively arrested. In addition, the police were able to avoid clashes between the two groups.

In the stadium, there was indeed a rocket fire and multiple provocations between the two camps, but without incident.

Number of Swindon Town fans arrested this season revealed by police - 07/03/2022

Source : Swindon Advertiser

The number of Swindon Town supporters being arrested at matches is on the rise.

Arrests in English domestic football have increased by 47 per cent from July-December 2021 when compared with the 2019-20 season.

A Freedom of Information request to Wiltshire Police by the Adver revealed 24 Town supporters were arrested between August 2021 and February 2022.

Of those, 18 were arrested for violent disorder, while six supporters were arrested for abusive language or behaviour.

No banning orders were imposed on Town supporters in the courts during that period.

No data was available for the 2020/21 season as games were played behind closed doors because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

For the same period during the 2019/20 season, 13 supporters were arrested - five for violent disorder, three for threatening behaviour and five for abusive language or behaviour.

Four fans were handed banning orders following a conviction for football-related offences.

In January this year, 10 Swindon fans were arrested after they allegedly attacked a coach carrying Bradford City fans after the club’s 3-1 defeat to the Bantams on October 23.

Last month, a Town supporter was convicted of a public order offence after goading a Manchester City fan.

Swindon Town Football Club have been approached for comment.

Mexico: Ten arrests in Mexico after hooligan brawl - 08/03/2022

Source : https://7news.com.au

Authorities in Mexico have arrested 10 suspects following a weekend brawl among soccer fans that left more than two dozen people injured, three critically.

Ten arrests have been made as Mexican police hunt the hooligans involved in the mass brawl that caused the suspension of a top-flight soccer match on Saturday.

The fighting, which left more than two dozen people injured, three critically, interrupted a match between host Queretaro and Atlas from Guadalajara, the reigning league champions.

Guadalupe Murguia, the interior secretary of Queretaro state, in north-central Mexico, said a total of 26 people had been identified as participating in the brawl. He added raids and searches with warrants were continuing in several cities to find the other 16 suspects.

The arrests were based on a review of videos and other evidence from the Saturday confrontation.

The state has suspended five officials after security forces at the stadium were unable to control the violence. They include police and civil defence employees, and three people responsible for planning and preparations.

The private company partly responsible for security at the soccer stadium has also had its contracts cancelled.

All matches in Mexico's top division were cancelled on Sunday and the league may impose bans on fans attending away matches.

Enrique Alfaro, the governor of Jalisco state, whose capital is Guadalajara, was asked about local press reports that the brawl may have involved local criminal gangs fighting visitors who purportedly belonged to the Jalisco drug cartel.

"What it seems to me is that what we saw was not a normal dispute between fans," Alfaro said. "What happened there was something that looked different."

Alfaro, however, refused to comment on whether drug gangs were involved.

Guadalajara Mayor Pablo Lemus said there was a growing consensus that teams' "barras" -- organised fan clubs that are often implicated in violence -- not be allowed to attend away matches.

France : Several arrests after the lynching of a Lille supporter in September - 08/03/2022

Source : https://www.lequipe.fr/

According to our information, seven arrests took place on Tuesday as part of the investigation into the attack on Arnaud Lasserre, this seriously injured LOSC supporter, on the night of September 14, on the sidelines of the Lille- Wolsfburg (0-0), on the first day of the Champions League group stage.

Arnaud Lasserre, father of two children, sports educator and prison guard at the Lille-Sequedin remand center, had been attacked and beaten by several people, before falling on his head on the esplanade of the Pierre- Mauroy. The bloody scene took place in front of the pub-restaurant The Factory, a meeting place for Lille ultras on match nights, also frequented by a fringe of supporters belonging to the identity movement, some of whom are sports enthusiasts. of combat and fricote with hooliganism.

Still according to our information, these arrests targeted seven “targets” previously identified by the investigators in their investigations, linked to individuals close to ultra-right circles, even if the attack on Arnaud Lasserre (consequence of a first altercation at the interior of The Factory pub) did not have a priori any political motive.

Opened for “violence in meetings resulting in an ITT of more than eight days”, a correctional qualification, this investigation was entrusted to an investigating judge in early January. The question of a permanent disability (loss of hearing in one ear) of Arnaud Lasserre, who spent several weeks in a coma in the fall, is still being asked.

Ten arrests in Mexico after brawl - 09/03/2022

Source : AFP

Ten men have been arrested in Mexico over a brawl between rival football fans that broke out during a game last weekend and left 26 people injured, prosecutors said Tuesday.

These 10 are suspected of attempted manslaughter, violence at a sports event and defending criminal activity, said a statement from the prosecutor's office in the city of Queretaro.

The fight broke out just after the hour mark of Saturday's game between the home team Queretaro and Atlas in the top division of Mexican football.

As some fans, including families with children, tried to escape the violence, the clashes spilled out onto the field of play, sending players running for cover.

The game was called off and the football league suspended Sunday's remaining matches.

Scottish grandad fighting Russians in Ukraine is notorious Hibs football casual - 09/03/2022

Source : Irish Mirror

Robert Grady, 61, who volunteered to join Ukranian forces, was a member of Capital City Service (CCS) linked to the Edinburgh club.

Season 21/22 - March - Page 2 Yuto

An infamous Scottish football hooligan has travelled to Ukraine to join its armed forces in the fight against Russia.

Robert Grady posted a recruitment video wielding an assault rifle alongside his new comrades and pleaded for more volunteers to enlist.

The reformed Hibs casual posted on Facebook yesterday from the frontline, telling followers: “I intend to kill as many as I can.”

The Edinburgh native has a reputation as a notorious hooligan linked to the Easter Road club from the early 1980s.

He was a member of the Hibs casual gang the Capital City Service (CCS) and received a football banning order as recently as 2014 for his involvement in a street brawl after a cup final.

In the 30-second video, Rab - thought to be in Kyiv - dons camouflage body armour and is seen holding the assault weapon following his arrival in Ukraine.

In the video with him are two other armed men, believed to be Ukrainian fighters.

In the video, he says: "My name is Rob. I’m a 61-year-old grandfather from Scotland.

“I’ve travelled to Ukraine to help Ukraine fight the Russians.

“I’ll do anything I can in my power to save Ukraine from Putin.

“Everybody in the world please help Ukraine. They need everybody to help, Volunteers, please.”

Grady has been keeping his Facebook followers updated since arriving in Ukraine.

On Monday, he wrote: “Just to keep you all updated Ukrainian army are shelling Russian position at the moment.

"The ORKS won’t like it.”

When asked about conditions in the thick of the action, he said it was "fine" but would become "bad" upon entering the city.

He then added: “I intend to kill as many as I can.”

When giving background on Grady, a source explained: “Rab was CCS for many years. He was one of the first Hibs boys ever.

"This is going back 40 years.

“This was a time when the casual scene was big and the Hibs boys were involved in large-scale street fighting.

“He’s been watching what was happening in the Ukraine and now he’s travelled out there to fight the Russians.

“He’s not particularly political but he’s found this cause.

“Rab was a ‘frontline’ Hibs casual and really steeped in that world. He’s 61 but a physically capable man. He’s a man who knows how to use his fists, but it will be a different world in Ukraine.

“A lot of people are saying how brave he is for going. I imagine he’s been asked to appear in this video to try and boost recruitment. They need everyone they can get over there.

“There’s a couple of Hearts boys who are also looking into going. There’s casuals in Edinburgh who think it’s a romantic quest, like joining the old International Brigades in Spain or fighting Hitler.”

Grady was one of six men who were banned from football matches for a total of eight-and-a-half years following a brawl before the Ramsdens Cup final match between Rangers and Raith Rovers at Easter Road in 2014.

Grady was handed a one-year football banning order at Edinburgh Sheriff Court over the incident in Edinburgh’s Grassmarket area.

How Barcelona and Real Madrid dealt with their toxic ultras? - 09/03/2022

Source : https://www.sportskeeda.com/

The term 'ultras' is often used to describe the most passionate and hardcore portion of a club's fanbase. While the definition sounds positive, the connotations of the word are largely negative. Ultras, most commonly found in Italy but also in the rest of the world, are associated with acts of hooliganism and violence.

While on television, the sight of these ultras with their tifos, flags, and flares might seem passionate, in reality, most of these groups are extreme right-wing ideologists. They are frequently associated with acts of neo-Nazism, racism, fascism, homophobia, and general extremism. For them, supporting a club is less about football but more about a sense of territorial integrity.

Ultras have been problematic for both Real Madrid and Barcelona
Rumors recently emerged that Real Madrid's ultras group 'Ultras Sur' will be welcomed back to the Bernabeu for the second leg against PSG. While it is highly unlikely that it will happen, several Real Madrid fans on social media seem to be in favor of it.

The truth is that perhaps they are not familiar with their reality. The mosaics, the chants, and the atmosphere give off a very romanticized view of groups like Ultras Sur.

Ultras Sur was started in the 1980s by Jose Ochaita. Ochaita was frequently associated with acts of racism, neo-Nazism, and violence. The group attracted people of similar right-wing extremist mentality.

In fact, they idolized former Spanish dictator Franco. Franco himself is notorious for acts of oppression against Catalans, Basques, and even women in general. Ultras Sur prided themselves on having these extremely negative traits and symbolized hatred for everything and everyone that were different from them.

They are known to have organized 'hunts' for these other communities. On matchdays, they were often seen singing racist and anti-Semitic chants and waving Nazi flags.

The biggest problem, however, was the fact that for the longest time, Real Madrid supported them and had close ties with them. In fact, they are known to have had offices inside the Bernabeu to store mosaics, megaphones, etc. Former Real players and managers even acknowledged their importance in the stadium.

However, all this began to change with Florentino Perez. Now it is noteworthy that while Perez himself isn't the cleanest, his decision to ban Ultras Sur from the stadium deserves appreciation. He understood that Real Madrid having a group like that only hurt their image and in 2014, he banned them and began working on revolutionizing the club's fan groups.

In retort, Ultras Sur called war on him, vandalizing his house and even going to the extent of desecrating his wife's grave. That says everything about them that needs to be known and Real fans must recognize that they do not need such people to help them overturn a 1-0 deficit.

Real Madrid and Barcelona, despite their huge rivalry, have often been two peas in the same pod, in success and in failure. Barca too had their own ultras group. They were known as Boixos Nois.

Barca pride themselves on being a political club in relation to the Catalan separatist movement. So it's not surprising that the Boixos Nois started out as a left-leaning group in 1981. They associated themselves with the independence movement and were against former President Josep Nuñez, who was seen as authoritarian.

However, over the 1980s, the group experienced a complete changeover and regressed into a right-wing, fascist and violent state.

They were associated with several acts of fan violence all over Spain. In stadiums, they often resorted to neo-Nazi gestures and chants. The club in fact had solid ties with them, giving them room to store their stuff in the Camp Nou and providing them with free tickets to away games, etc.

In fact, after their drastic switch in ideology, Nuñez and his successor Gaspart publicly supported them and gave them freedom. In return, they used them for their own political gain.

However, all this changed in the club elections of 2003. Current president Joan Laporta was contesting his first term against Lluis Bassat. Bassat sadly had to face immense harassment from the Boixos Nois because he was a Jew. His campaign was often interjected with inflammatory and anti-Semitic chants by the group.

Predictably, when the election happened, the Boixos Nois voted for Laporta as they didn't want a Jew in charge of their club. Laporta won, and among his first decisions in charge was banning the Boixos Nois from the club and cutting all ties with them. He had to bear the brunt of their anger, therefore, as his house was broken into and there was even an attempt to kill him.

Both Laporta and Perez have their supporters and detractors and their reputation has taken a hit with the recent Super League business. But credit where it is due and the decision to distance their clubs from these anti-social groups.

Two arrested as Marseille and Basel ultras clash before Conference League match

Le Parisien report this morning that clashes between Marseille and Basel fans last night saw two supporters arrested and two members of the police injured.

The first clashes took place near the stadium at around 6pm local time – three hours before kick-off, and saw 200 Basel ultras and those of OM throw projectiles and fireworks at each other.

Police then intervened with tear gas to put an end to the clashes. Two Marseille supporters were arrested for violence towards police and two members of law enforcement sustained light injuries.

A similar incident took place earlier this season in European competition when OM faced Galatasaray. On that occasion, UEFA had sanctioned the club by closing down the Vélodrome’s north stand for the next game against Lazio.
